TEAS (Test of Essential Acakemic Skills)

TEAS is used by Nursing and Allied Health schools to measure the academic preparedness of program candidates.  This test consists of 170 questions that cover the subjects: Reading, Math, Science, and English/Language.

LEARNING EXPRESS LIBRARY

Use Learning Express Library's Health Careers Practice Entrance Tests to prepare for the TEAS.

WHAT'S ON THE TEST?

The TEAS reading test section is used to measure and test your reading comprehension.  The reading section of TEAS consist of the following 3 subsections.

I. Key Ideas and Details (22 scored questions)

II. Craft and Structure (14 scored questions)

III. The Integration of Knowledge and Ideas (11 scored questions)

The TEAS Mathematics test section is used to measure and test your ability to use algebra, to measure, to interpret data and to perform different mathematical operations using numbers. There are 32 questions in this section. The following two subsections of the make up the TEAS Mathematics section.

I. Numbers and Algebra: 23 scored questions

Some of the tasks that you are expected to be able to perform:

  • Convert non negative fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Arithmetic operations with rational numbers
  • Compare and order rational numbers
  • Solve equations with one variable
  • Solve one or multi-step problems with rational numbers
  • Solve problems involving percentages
  • Apply estimation strategies and rounding rules for real-world problems
  • Solve problems involving proportions
  • Solve problems involving ratios and rates of change
  • Translate phrases and sentences into expressions, equations and inequalities

II. Measurement and Data: 9 scored questions

Some of the tasks that you are expected to be able to perform:

  • Interpret relevant information from tables, charts and graphs
  • Evaluate information in tables, charts, and graphs using statistics
  • Explain the relationship between two variables
  • Convert within and between standard and metric systems
  • Calculate Geometric Qualities

The Science section of TEAS has 53 questions, 6 unscored placed randomly.  The 3 subsections that make up the Science section are the following:

I. Human Anatomy and Physiology (32 questions)

The questions in this section cover the following:

  • Circulatory System
  • Digestive System
  • Nervous System
  • Respiratory System
  • Immune System
  • General anatomy and physiology of a human
  • Population growth and decline affected by births and deaths; emigration and immigration
  • Factors that influence birth rates and fertility rates

II. Life and Physical Sciences (8 questions)

The following is a sampling of the topics covered in the questions for this section:

  • Process of natural selection and adaptation
  • Biological Classification System
  • Parts of a cell and its function
  • Structure and function of cellular organelles
  • Cell differentiation
  • Mitosis and meiosis
  • Photosynthesis and respiration (compare and contrast)
  • Structures and functions of nucleic acids
  • DNA Mutations

III. Scientific Reasoning (7 questions)

The questions in this section cover the following topics.

  • Scientific Measurements & Laboratory Measurement Tools
  • Scientific Explanations Using Logic and Evidence
  • Relationships Among Events, Objects, and Processes
  • Analysis and Design of a Scientific Investigation

The TEAS English and Language Usage test section is used to measure and test your knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and contextual words.

The TEAS English and Language Usage test consist of the following 3 subsections.

I. Conventions of Standard English (9 scored questions)

II. Knowledge of Language (9 scored questions)

III. Vocabulary Acquisition (6 scored questions)

Ferguson's Career Guidance Center - Find information on nearly 3,400 jobs and 94 industries, broken into 16 Department of Education Career Clusters.  Nearly 300 videos also introduce users to a wide variety of jobs, industries, and career development skills.

Careeronestop -  Learn about careers and find career information, find wage and employment statistics for the nation, each state, and sub-state regions.

Bureau of Labor Statistics - Wage Data by Area and Occupation -  find wage data by occupation for the nation, regions, states, and many metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas.
